Folk Steps: From Saidi to Sha’abi
Bring your stick and put on your galabeya! This workshop will focus on two distinctive Egyptian styles of music and dance. First, learn how to dance with a cane, or “assaya,” and capture the bouncy saidi beat and the sway of the mizmar with your dance. Then we will travel to the city and work with Egyptian Sha’abi music, also know as the urban beledi, or urban folk style of Cairo!
